About us

The beginning

Growing up away from Cyprus, Andreani Panayide always felt the pull of the island, its warmth, its textures, its quiet way of holding history. She trained in Lefkara lace at the Cyprus Handicraft Services, spent time with weavers, and fell in love with the fabrics that had dressed Cypriot women for generations.

Then she discovered something that changed everything. The traditional Cypriot techniques, Lefkara Lace, Fythkiotiko, Alatsia, were slowly disappearing. The weavers were aging. The looms were going quiet. And most of what was being sold as "traditional Cypriot fabric" was actually being manufactured abroad.

Folkmona started in 2023 as her answer to that.

What we make

Every Folkmona piece is made from authentic Cypriot fabrics, woven by hand on the island by artisans who have spent their lives perfecting these techniques. We work in small quantities, deliberately. Not because we have to, but because we believe that's how clothing should be made, carefully, intentionally, with respect for the people and traditions behind every thread.

No fast fashion. No fillers. Just pieces that mean something.

What we believe

We believe craft is culture. When a weaving technique disappears, something irreplaceable goes with it, a way of seeing the world, a way of making beauty from the everyday.

Folkmona exists to make sure that doesn't happen. Through our garments, our workshops, our community, we're building a home for Cypriot craft that feels as alive today as it did centuries ago.

The community

Folkmona is more than a clothing brand. It's a growing community of people who care about culture, craft and the stories behind what they wear. Join us through our workshops, or simply by wearing a piece that carries the island with it.

Welcome to Folkmona.
